AW20 trend report: Celine bourgeois rock ‘n’ roll (again)
Hedi Slimane gets a lot of hate, but generally I’m a fan. His latest Celine AW20 collection got criticised for its predictability – bourgeois rock ‘n’ roll again?! But you can’t deny, up close the pieces are immaculately cut and have that forever classicism that’s in keeping with today’s anti fast-fashion mood. (I’m not quite ready to embrace the fashion rental movement; I’m a keep-forever kinda girl.)
For Celine AW20 Hedi showed 112 exits; his first time mixing menswear and womenswear on the same runway. My standouts were the mini trunk-style cross-body bags, men’s dainty jewellery, women’s chunky crystal pendants, all of the heavy silk blouses and a ton of hair-spiration. Plus the velvet db blazers and python boots. In short, nothing you’ve not seen before, but some seriously good investment pieces. However, next season it would be good to see some surprises…

Such a predictable collection. I can’t help but feel it’s lazy creative direction, it’s straight from the archives but everyone gives it lip service because it’s Hedi. Where is the innovation ? Impeccable yes, inspirational, no. he really needs to get over himself.

Thanks Sue. Yeah, I think that’s what I’m trying to say!
