Aroma Therapy
Smell is a big thing for me. I’m the opposite of a fragrance-free kinda girl. I’m here for the full-fat geranium and lavender self-care experience and like many others, scent has become a sort of olfactory comfort blanket in recent months. Unsurprisingly, it’s also led to a few new product launches. Here are some of my latest aroma-therapy discoveries…
HIGH END HAND SANITISER. I knew a flurry of upscale hand sanitisers would arrive, and here are two worth your time. Perfumer H Hand First Aid is a blend of orange leaf, basil leaf, Angelica seed and cedar wood in a dropper bottle to keep at home or in the car. Perfumer H’s Lyn Harris said it was created “to take the fear element away from our new way of life”. You can get these from her store in Marylebone (although her equally fantastic scented candles are available from her brand new ecommerce site – bestsellers are Dandelion and Smoke). Wellness brand, Anatomé has come out with its Hand Sanitising Botanical Defence hand cleaner, containing calming English Lavender and Tea Tree essential oils for ‘clean beauty’ enthusiasts. WAKE UP SHOWER AND SCRUB. I was very kindly sent some small batch coffee body scrub by Sussex-based roastery, Liquid Spirit following a comment from regular reader Martin. It comes in five mood-boosting scents in glass jars, a lovely example of zero waste beauty. The coffee scrub can be a tad messy, so to help bind it all, I apply it on top of a little shower oil. It means most of it goes on me and not the shower walls. It’s my first time using a coffee scrub and it’s incredibly invigorating. Buy it here. I’m also loving the new Aromatherapy Associates Revive Shower Oil (gift), now available at Look Fantastic. If you’ve tried the bath oils, you’ll know how potent these are. This is the most fabulous way to wake up and feel instantly energised and full of optimism. Buy it here*.
MAYA NJIE PERFUME. I had the pleasure of meeting perfumer Maya Njie a few weeks ago, after which she sent me her discovery kit of gender-neutral fragrances. There are only five in the line and they’re all very easy on the nose. My standout is the best selling Nordic Cedar, cooling and slightly spicy with a hint of musk. My new everyday wear. Buy it here*.
A SWEET-SCENTED EXFOLIATING CLEANSER. A new favourite cleansing balm for me, Espa Optimal Skin Pro-Cleanser (gift) uses jojoba ‘spheres’ to give a gentle morning cleanse scented with orange blossom. The squeezy tube means you’re less likely to use too much. I can’t praise it enough. Buy it here*.
HAUTE HAIR MIST. Practical yet decadent, I’m intrigued by these new hair mists. The idea is that hair is porous, so it retains scent for longer. Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Universalis hair mist sounds ravishing with its bergamot, citron and orange blossom notes. Buy it here*. Diptyque’s mists (buy here*) have hair-nourishing ingredients like camellia oil (the stuff that gives Sumo wrestlers their glossy barnets), while Jo Malone’s English Pear and Fresia mist contains argan oil and Pro Vitamin B (buy it here*). But this one gets my personal vote. It’s the hair version of Floraiku’s magnificent grapefruit-infused Between Two Trees perfume.
